Mission & Priorities
Our Mission
The Nor Este Crime Division (NECD) is committed to protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution of the United States by investigating and preventing crimes that threaten the safety and security of our society, including terrorism, cyber crime, counterintelligence, civil rights violations, public corruption, weapons of mass destruction, organized crime, violent crime, and white-collar crime.
Our Priorities
The NECD is committed to addressing the most pressing threats to public safety, and our priorities reflect this commitment:
-
Protect the U.S. from terrorist attacks: The NECD works tirelessly to prevent terrorist attacks and to disrupt the operations of terrorist organizations. We collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and organizations to gather intelligence, investigate potential threats, and take action to prevent attacks.
-
Protect the U.S. against foreign intelligence, espionage, and cyber operations: The NECD is dedicated to protecting the U.S. against foreign intelligence, espionage, and cyber operations. We use cutting-edge technology and forensic techniques to investigate cyber crimes, identify those responsible, and bring them to justice.
-
Combat significant cyber-criminal activity: With the increasing prevalence of technology in our lives, cyber crime has become a major threat to public safety. The NECD is committed to investigating and preventing a range of cyber crimes, from identity theft and financial fraud to hacking and cyber espionage.
-
Combat public corruption at all levels: Public corruption is a serious threat to the integrity of our government and public institutions. The NECD investigates cases of bribery, embezzlement, and other forms of corruption involving public officials, and works to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
-
Protect civil rights: The NECD is responsible for protecting the civil rights of all citizens and ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and equally under the law. We investigate hate crimes, police misconduct, and other civil rights violations, and work to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
-
Combat transnational criminal enterprises: Transnational criminal enterprises are involved in a range of criminal activities, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering, and racketeering. The NECD investigates and disrupts criminal organizations involved in these activities, working to dismantle criminal networks and prosecute those responsible for their actions.
-
Combat significant white-collar crime: White-collar crime, such as fraud, insider trading, and embezzlement, can have devastating effects on individuals, organizations, and the economy as a whole. The NECD is dedicated to identifying and prosecuting those who engage in these types of crimes.
-
Combat significant violent crime: The NECD is committed to investigating and preventing violent crimes, including homicide, assault, and robbery. We work closely with other law enforcement agencies and community partners to identify and address the root causes of violence, while also taking aggressive action to bring violent offenders to justice.
